The Top Things to See in Genting Highlands

Located amidst a majestic 100 million-year-old rainforest and cool mountain air, Genting Highlands is a cool hill station that’s just 45 minutes away from the Kuala Lumpur city. It should be on the top of the list when you are planning a holiday getaway as it can offers round-the-clock entertainment starting from an 18-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor theme parks, the biggest strawberry farm in Malaysia and also a casino amongst others. If you are an adventure enthusiast, Genting Highlands is the place for you as it offers activities such as indoor rock climbing, abseiling and flying fox etc. 

This resort town is also known as the City of Entertainment and has plenty of touristy hotels for accommodating the people who like to visit. It also plays host to an array of international acts ranging from Leona Lewis to Boyz II Men. There is no lack of things to see and do in Genting Highlands, but there are some that you should definitely get to experience when you are visiting and they are:

Awana Skyway  

One of the most convenient ways for reaching the peak of Genting Highlands is through Awana Skyway. It will provide you with access to plenty of dining, shopping and entertainment options. It is essentially a state-of-the-art cable system that takes approximately 10 minutes to take you from Awana Station to SkyAvenue Station, which is connected to the SkyAvenue Shopping Mall. There are two kinds of gondolas and both give you a bird’s eye view of Genting Highlands and also the surrounding rainforest. 

Chin Swee Caves Temple  

Set on plot of rocky forested land of about 28 acres, Chin Swee Caves Temple is a Taoist temple in Genting Highlands and is frequently visited by the locals for religious rituals and its serene atmosphere. It was erected in the honor of a Buddhist monk, Reverend Master Chin Swee, who belonged to the Fujian Province and was renowned for his ability to drive away evil spirits and summon the rain. There are statues of Kuan Yin and Buddha in the temple as well as sculptures of animals Chinese inscriptions. 

SkyCasino Genting  

Recognized as the largest casino in Genting Highlands, SkyCasino Genting spans two floors with a massive LED screen on the ceilings, eight dining venues and a variety of slot machines and gaming tables. It is open 24 hours a day and is located in SkyAvenue Shopping Mall and is quite popular amongst the adult visitors. It carries a forest theme due to which it is fitted with lots of earth-toned wooden fixtures and furnishings. As far as the ceiling is concerned, it is 16 meters in height and gives you a digitalized image of the towering trees and the sky. There are Genting ATMs, self-service kiosks, bank teller machines and the casino staff is ready to assist you with anything. 

Genting Skyway 

This is the second cable car system that can be found in Genting Highlands and travels between the peak of the highland and Gohtong Jaya. While the main method is the Awana Skyway, this one becomes operational when the former undergoes maintenance. Genting Skyway is also used during busy periods such as during school and public holidays and over the weekend. This gondola-style car also gives you mesmerizing views of various landmarks in the highlands, which include the Chin Swee Caves Temple, SkyAvenue Shopping Mall, the old rainforest and the upcoming 20th century Fox Malaysia Theme park. 

Vision City Video Games Park  

If you are going with your kids, you have to check out Vision City Video Games park located within Genting Grand. It is an indoor arcade center that has something to offer to visitors of all ages, adults and kids alike. It is open every day and comprises of about 400 entertainment options such as skill-based games, interactive games, redemption games that give tickets as per your performance and kiddie rides. 

Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Center  

This is another must-visit attraction in Genting Highlands and the tranquil conservation center allows you to see one of the most majestic creatures; elephants. There are over 500 wild elephants that will lift peanuts from your hand and even give you a quick ride.
